At Community Bridge Video, we believe that photos, videos, and the internet are great ways to bring communities together and that ANYONE can make media that matters. Since we started doing this work in 1997, others have given it many different names: Digital Storytelling, Participatory Video, PhotoVoice, Video Voice...

Our work bridges digital divides. Community members are recruited to make their own educational video or set of still photographs. Our professionals provide technical and creative classes and support, while the message and the content comes from the folks who live the issue.

Our approach ensures that the community has a say in what messages they want to get across. It filters out messages that are inappropriate or out of place. Depending on community interests and needs, we might do a little, some, or all of the technical work. Click here for more info about our levels of engagement.

The process of making media also has a positive impact on the community. It sparks dialogue. It increases skills. Folks get hands on experience in video production and/or photography, build teams and creatively solve problems.

When the work is done, participants tell friends and family about making the video/taking the photographs/and writing about the issue. When the team’s work is presented to the community, that showcase makes a great media event that publicizes both the message and the partnerships that made the project possible.

Contact us today to find out how you can spark conversation with community media that moves. Whether you want to make a video, photo exhibit, book, curriculum, website or other - we can help. We also put media online and help people use Web 2.0 tools like social networking to keep the conversation going.
