LEVELS OF ENGAGEMENT

This level usually describes a class taught by CBV staff. Our staff teaches the necessary technology. Community members are free to create their own original work, with few limits or communication goals.

We offer several levels of engagement - customized to balance community and project needs. Budget is also a factor for some clients. Some examples are listed below to help you pinpoint your needs. Call or email us to custom design your project.

At this level, CBV staff outlines a project. Community members build their own original elements based on specifics included in the outline. One example was a video contest which CBV designed. The length of the videos, subject matter, technology, and messages were all defined in advance. Contest participants were free to create their own, original, entries within those limits.

Projects with this level of engagement are mostly made by CBV professionals, but are designed to include specific community-made elements. In a current project CBV staff are training youth researchers to conduct interviews, shoot stills, shoot video, and edit video. The youth will create 1-2 minute films which will fit into a larger piece designed and made by CBV.

In the past, for this level, we have also added professional elements to youth made media or made compilation reels of community made work - while editing in other professional pieces like news coverage.

Sometimes a community’s story is told best by the community itself  - even if their technical skills are limited. At other times, an outsider’s perspective is helpful and professional skills are essential. CBV staff leadership and authorship is best employed in those situations. This level is perfect for organizations who are experiencing growth and/or fostering relationships with major funders.

All of our staff have at least a decade of experience in their area of expertise (some more).

** When appropriate, Youth Crew members are hired as interns and production assistants to shadow our professional staff and freelancers.
